News has now gone round the world about the absolute devastation Cyclone Idai has caused in central Mozambique.
Thousands of people have been affected in a way that we cannot even imagine, including people we know personally because of their involvement in the work of CLC Beira. The house of our manager, Sacramento, has been badly damaged – the roof has blown off and the beams have collapsed.
The leader of AIM, Claudia Middendorf, is a great supporter of CLC in Beira. Her apartment is also badly damaged but she is housing 20 people who have nowhere to go. This is a common situation across the city. People are trying to take care of each other as best they can. Relief organisations have been supplying accommodation centres with food, water purifiers, blankets, clothes and medication, but these items are still not available to all who need them.
CLC Maputo (Mozambique) has sent some first aid to Sacramento, Claudia and those they take care of.
